It was two much time, the shops all had the same things. You had time for lunch maybe 1 hr and to look around the shops 1 hr, 2 hrs of nothing to do. It was very cold when there so it was uncomfortable. The cruise ship on return took 2 1/2 hrs, so returned at 9pm.”

Take the FRS Finland ferry from Helsinki Market Square to Vallisaari Fortress Island in about 15 minutes. You can stay for an hour or most of the day, walk marked trails past fortifications and wild habitats, and buy drinks or snacks onboard. Expect uneven paths and steep uphill sections.
“Unfortunately never got to Vallisaari Island but instead ended up on Suomenlinna. Went to designated ferry terminal (with red flags and signage for Vallisaari) at correct departure time. Had tickets checked by ferry staff when boarding and set off. Upon arrival at Suomenlinna was told the ferry did not go to Vallisaari!”
