Chania/Rethymno: Balos & Gramvousa With Pickup & Boat Ticket

1.Chania/Rethymno: Balos & Gramvousa With Pickup & Boat Ticket

★★★★★★★★★★4.3 · 1,703 reviews · 9 - 12 hours · from $50Our pick

Travel by air-conditioned bus from Chania or Rethymno to Kissamos, then cruise to Gramvousa and Balos Lagoon. You get about two hours at Gramvousa and 2.5 hours at Balos for swimming, snorkeling, and the castle hike. Guides speak several languages, including English and Greek.

“Nice trip to two popular destinations, we had quite enough time in each of them, considering how much the transportation takes. The ship had some food and drink options, and natural water was surprisingly cheap (0.6 eur per 0.5 l). Snacks are expensive in the port, better buy something in advance. Air conditioning wasn't regulated in the bus, it was cold inside (it was late September). The ship jumped a lot on the waves, so if you know you might be seasick, take some pills before it, the guide also offered them to us in the bus.”

“The trip was overally very nice. Logistically-wise everything was very good organised, both the bus and the boat were on time all the time. The only minor issue was the boat. It was very loaded with people and sometimes you would need to stand for the entire ride. Also, the bar on boat was super crowded and you had to wait 20-25 min to get a bottle of water. Both Gramvousa and Balos were very beautiful.”

Swim in clear, shallow water, see the Dimitrios P shipwreck, and climb to a 16th-century Venetian fortress. Guides such as Vicky, Eva, and Irene are praised for keeping the long day organized.

“Not only was Balos Lagoon beautiful, but we got to finish the day with Gramvousa which honestly I preferred to Balos! I hiked up to the fortress then went for a quick swim in the beautiful water. Whole docking at Balos took entirely too long (I think maybe 45 minutes?) and cut into our time, that was the only downside. Our guide was just lovely and warm and I really enjoyed meeting her. Highly recommend!”

We arrived at our destination in the allotted time and found our bus right away. The guide recommended a few famous photo places but never took us there, you were on your own. I would recommend you get all of your goods and souvenirs in Santorini main area because it’s significantly cheaper than when the guide took us to the lesser known city of Santorini. I was so glad I decided to do that. Disappointed I didn’t think…”

Nowhere to relax, nowhere to enjoy the beauty, just the most stressful and suffocating experience I've ever encountered - too many people!!!!!!!!!!”

“Through no fault of our driver or Viator, we had a delay in meeting our driver. I can honestly tell you I have been on many excursions and our driver, Alex, was simply the best. I was scattered because of my circumstances and he was so calm and assured us the day was not ruined. He was so kind, very professional and we had the best time. He is very knowledgeable about history. He lives on Santorini and showed us parts of the island we would not have otherwise experienced. We ate at one of his local restaurants that he frequents and it was the best Greek food ever! The…”
